Railroad Spike Bottle Opener

$27.00

I forge these minimalist railroad spike bottle openers completely by hand using my own hand forged hammers, punches and drifts. Each opener is sourced from local steel scrap yards right here in New Orleans, Louisiana. At one point, these spikes were used to hold train track to the railroad tie in the New Orleans area. Now, they have a new purpose opening any and every glass capped bottle for you for years to come. You can own a piece of railroad and New Orleans history in this handcrafted bottle opener. These bottle openers make the perfect gift for a homebrewer, craft beer lover, beer drinker, and anyone who loves the historic City of New Orleans.

To forge these one of kind creations, I heat the railroad spike to around 2,000 degrees and use a heavy hammer and punch to create the general shape. I then use a rounding hammer to work the opener smooth, and forge the indentation that will fit under the bottle cap. After forging I finish the opener with my own special mixture of local organic beeswax and oil. This mixture darkens the steel and provides a durable coating that will last for decades.

I test each opener to be sure that it will work every time you use. I am happy to say that I can also provide free custom stamping for each order. Fill out the information when ordering, and each bottle opener can be stamped with up to 3 characters for free. This makes it a perfect personalized gift when stamped with initials. Extra characters are available for additional cost.
