Intro to Axe Making:
Railroad Spike Tomahawk

This workshop is an introduction to axe making, forging a tomahawk. Starting with a new railroad spike, we will use a hammer and anvil for the majority of the work, forging the steel close to the final shape. After forging we will grind rough bevels, discuss heat treatment, finish grind, and sharpen. This class will prioritize the safety concerns of metal working, good forging technique, and general best practices when in a blacksmith shop. The project is a finished tomahawk, including a hickory handle.
